There are numerous ways to combine Chile and Argentina but this is one of our most popular routes navigating the Magellan Straits and Beagle Channel to reach Cape Horn and Ushuaia. Early booking is essential.
Highlights: Santiago – Punta Arenas – Beagle Channel – Tierra del Fuego – Perito Moreno – Buenos Aires
You will be met on arrival and driven to your hotel. The Chilean capital is a modern metropolis against a backdrop of the Andes.
Santiago city tour with excursion to Concha y Toro vineyard.
Morning tour of the historic centre of Santiago. In the afternoon travel to the Maipo valley for a tour of the vineyard which was founded in 1883. Today Concha y Toro is the largest exporter of Chilean wine.
Fly to Punta Arenas and transfer from the airport to the port to board either the Via Australis or the Stella Australis. The ship departs at 6pm.
Ainsworth Bay and Tuckers Islets
Navigation through Almirantazgo Sound to arrive at Ainsworth Bay with views of the Marinelli Glacier descending from the Darwin Mountain Range. Sailing on to Tuckers Islets there is an excursion in Zodiac boats to get close to a colony of Magellan Penguins.
Pia Glacier and Glacier Alley
Travel along the northwest arm of the Beagle Channel before disembarking at Pia Fjord for a short hike to reach the best vantagepoint for memorable views of Pia
Glacier. The voyage continues along the Beagle Channel through the majestic Glacier Alley.
Wulaia Bay and Cape Horn
Sail through Murray Channel and go ashore at Wulaia Bay, the site of one of the region’s largest Yamana indigenous settlements where Charles Darwin landed in 1833 during his voyage on the HMS Beagle. In the afternoon sail through Nassau Bay to reach Cape Horn National Park, where, weather permitting, there will be the opportunity to go ashore.
Arrival in Ushuaia and disembark. You will be met and driven to your hotel.
Fly to El Calafate and transfer to your hotel. We recommend a visit to the Glaciarum ice museum with its Glaciobar where the bar, tables, seating and walls are all made of ice.
This important glacier is 50 miles from El Calafate at the western end of Lago Argentino. Following the paths you will get close up views of the glacier, an impressive river of ice some 18 miles long and about 2½ miles wide.
In the afternoon you'll have the chance to go ice-trekking on the glacier with crampons, a highly memorable experience.
Fly to Buenos Aires for the last few days of your stay. You will be met on arrival and driven to your hotel. A tango show is included in the evening with dinner.
Half day city tour to some of the key places in the capital including the Plaza de Mayo, San Telmo and La Boca before continuing to the restored Puerto Madero docklands area, now thriving with cafes, bars and restaurants. The tour ends at the elegant district of Recoleta.
Free day to explore Buenos Aires in your own time. If you would like us to book anything in particular for you, such as a football tour, a tour of notable bars and restaurants, tango lessons or our new Pope Francis tour, please let us know.
